NRL EVENTS: 36th Annual NRL Symposium on Infectious Diseases Testing

The 36th Annual NRL Symposium on Infectious Diseases Testing will be held from 14-16 October 2019 at the QT hotel on the Gold Coast.
This Symposium is specifically devised for those working in medical laboratory science to come together and discuss commonly encountered issues and challenges. This meeting aims to promote the sharing of ideas and collaborations between like-minded individuals in an informal environment.
NRL is delighted to have a number of invited speakers present at the Symposium this year. Guest presenters include Dr Micha Nubling from the Paul Ehrlich Institute in Germany addressing IVD regulation in Europe and standardisation of HIV viral load testing; and Dr Noryati Abu Amin from the Malaysia National Blood Centre discussing emerging infections and the blood centre’s approach to emergency preparedness. Professor Iain Gosbell from the Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) will also present on emergency preparedness from the Australian blood service perspective. In addition, we look forward to hearing ARCBS Director of Manufacture and Quality, Ms Sue Ismay speak about the challenges regarding in-house IVD development and Ms Fiona McCormack from the Therapeutics Good Administration present on the validation of HIV self-testing devices. Dr Geoffrey Higgins from SA Pathology will be speaking about the latest updates on HPV testing and Dr Lloyd Einsiedel from Alice Springs Hospital will be discussing the impact of HTLV in central Australia. There will also be expert presentations on the new HTLV screening policy of blood donors, diagnostic development for emerging infections, treatment and vaccine strategies for arboviruses, the prevalence of STIs and antimicrobial resistance, public health emergency preparedness and much more!
