NRL Training: Addressing the HIV Epidemic in Myanmar
As part of the endeavour to attain the UNAIDS 90-90-90 goals-diagnose 90% of all HIV-positive persons, provide antiretroviral therapy for 90% of those diagnosed, and achieve viral suppression for 90% of those treated by 2020, Myanmar has begun the process of decentralising testing for HIV.
As part of this initiative, with funding from the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and through a Cooperative Agreement between the US CDC and the American Society for Clinical Pathology, NRL staff member Dr Kim Wilson is visiting Myanmar from August to September to support the National Health Laboratory, Yangon in validating Myanmar’s current national HIV testing algorithm. Kim is also facilitating and participating in meetings aimed at developing a HIV Confirmatory Testing training module, and supporting the ongoing quality of HIV testing services in Myanmar.
