NRL Bids Farewell To Dr Thein Thein Aye
It was with great sadness that we said farewell in January to Dr Thein Thein Aye after more than twenty years as a loyal and longstanding member of staff. We took the opportunity to celebrate her contribution and welcomed NRL’s previous Directors Dr Liz Dax and Sue Best and other former NRL staff to join us for the occasion. We celebrated Thein Thein’s generous spirit and her can-do attitude and recognised the selfless service and the strong commitment she has demonstrated to the mission of NRL.
Thein Thein came to NRL in the early days after working for the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory when they were part of Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital. Many NRL colleagues and customers will know Thein Thein for her role in co-ordinating NRL international EQAS (External Quality Assessment Scheme) in the earlier part of of her time at NRL and managing the NRL Sample Bank for a number of years - securing the Material Transfer Agreements from prospective international Blood Services. She also helped co-ordinate the importation and arrival of the plasma samples which are so important for our proficiency testing panels, evaluations and our other quality assurance programmes. She has also been responsible for co-ordinating the processing, characterising and assessment of test results of those samples to achieve quality end products.
We wish Thein Thein well in her next endeavours!
