November 2015: SEARO Laboratory Strengthening Training in Bangkok
Between the 16 and 20 of November Susie Braniff conducted an inter-country workshop on Capacity Building in WHO Measles and Rubella Laboratory Accreditation in Bangkok, Thailand. The training was supported by the South East Asian Regional Office of WHO (SEARO). Members of the WHO Measles and Rubella Laboratory Network from India, Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand took part in the week long programme.
The training workshop was focussed on performing laboratory audits using the Measles & Rubella Laboratory check-list for annual WHO accreditation and incorporated an interactive auditing session where all participants were able to practice their auditing skills. The capacity of participants to provide mentoring and support to laboratories in the South East Asian WHO Measles and Rubella Laboratory Network was enhanced through training modules in quality management systems, corrective and preventive action and the development of external quality assessment schemes.
Expert advisors Dr Pattamadilok and Dr Featherstone were on hand throughout the workshop to share their auditing experiences and extensive knowledge of measles and rubella testing with the participants.
NRL would like to thank the workshop participants for their enthusiasm and hard work during the training workshop.
NRL would also like to thank Dr Pattamadilok and Dr Featherstone for their contributions to the workshop and SEARO for their support of laboratory capacity building in the South East Asian region.
