St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research (SVI) and the National Serology Reference Laboratory (NRL) are proud to announce that the SVI Biobank has achieved ISO 20387 accreditation.

As one of only two biobanks in Australia to be awarded ISO 20387 – the global benchmark for biobanking – the SVI Biobank upholds the highest international standards of quality, traceability, and integrity in every sample we manage.

For our partners, this accreditation provides assurance at every step: samples and associated data are handled using rigorously verified methods, ensuring they are suitable for studies worldwide.

Managed and housed by NRL on the St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne campus, the SVI Biobank was established in 2015 with support from the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust (HMSTrust).

Since then, it has grown to more than 50,000 specimens from over 1,800 participants.

The Biobank provides safe, reliable storage of human specimens, including whole blood, plasma, serum and tissue, across any disease area.

Offering an end-to-end service, the SVI Biobank supports:

  • pre-study consultation and planning
  • sample collection and processing
  • troubleshooting and adaptation to changing study needs
  • secure de-identified data collation
  • 24/7 temperature-monitored storage

With this accreditation, every sample entrusted to the SVI Biobank is helping drive world-class discoveries that improve health and save lives.
